Janey's Stitches

"The details make the design. I just love adding shiny hardware, rivets and colourful linings"
My Mum taught me to sew when I was a child and I have always loved dressmaking and soft furnishings. But four year ago, as a sort of an escape from the manic world for a few days, I signed up on a bag making retreat, where I was immersed in all things to do with making handbags and I loved it! I quickly learnt specific skills and professional techniques relating to structured bag making and it quickly became my passion.
Each bag is individually made by me with love and care. I adore bright colour and pretty patterns so I use a vast range of combinations in my work to produce unique collections. The details make the design. I just love adding shiny hardware, rivets and colourful linings. Sometimes there's even an extra little pop of colour inside a pocket. I never make two the same so every single item is a one off, a work of art and a labour of love!
Most items are made of faux leather and/or 100% cotton fabric. The insides combine interfacing for strength and foam for structure. Linings are usually 100% cotton and the inside is finished to the same high standard as the exterior. I use high quality hardware and zippers. Bags feature external and internal pockets and adjustable straps.
I use a modern sewing machine for most work and a vintage one which is heavier duty for going through very thick layers and to ensure perfectly neat top stitching, which is important for a professional finish.

After perfecting my techniques I was overrun by bags and I realised there's only so many handbags a girl can use! So the time has come to share my creations with the big wide world instead of keeping them all for myself.
